Rehabilitation stands as an indispensable global healthcare service, underscoring the importance of acknowledging the unwavering loyalty and commendable efforts of those who leave a lasting impact.

In pursuit of celebrating the invaluable contributions of our dedicated collaborators and volunteers, Physiopedia proudly presents the unveiling of its Fourth Annual Awards Programme. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who dedicated their time to nominate worthy candidates for the 2022-2023 period.

The vitality and success of Physiopedia thrives on the fervour and unwavering commitment of our remarkable volunteers, contributors, associates, and partners. We now gather to pay tribute to these exceptional individuals for their outstanding contributions, stellar performance, and inspirational leadership. Let us join together in a resounding chorus of acclamation, applauding each and every one of them for their exceptional achievements.

Top Contributor

This award is given to the individual who has contributed the most to Physiopedia content this past year.  This award is being presented to Aminat Abolade.

With an amazing team of volunteers at Physiopedia, choosing just one individual for the annual Top Contributor Award is always a challenging task. For 2023, we are excited to announce that the award goes to Aminat, reflecting her exceptional commitment and contributions.

Aminat, a dedicated student in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme at the University of Lagos in Nigeria, has made quite an impact on our content since joining as a volunteer in October 2020. Skillfully juggling her demanding studies with her responsibilities for Physiopedia, Aminat has been prolific in creating and reviewing page content and has also found time to facilitate our Volunteer Orientation Course.

Her drive to enhance rehabilitation knowledge extends beyond her role within Physiopedia, reaching into her home community in Nigeria. Aminat, your diligence, ambition, and spirit of teamwork have rightly earned you the Top Contributor title for 2023.

Physiopedia SuperstarThe superstar award is given to the person who has made outstanding contributions by an individual to Physiopedia. This award received several nominations for many impressive candidates; however, one person stood out as the clear choice. Wendy Walker is an impressive member of the volunteer Content Team as well as an Instructor on Plus.  Wendy has been with the team since 2013 and is passionate about developing information relating to Bell’s Palsy and facial injuries. She is also a huge advocate of Physiopedia and Physiopedia Plus (Plus) and during her recent visit to Malawi, she introduced rehabilitation professionals to the online learning platform for their professional development.  Wendy, you are a true superstar!

Best Project

New content development is a major driving force behind the creation of Physiopedia pages. Physiopedia has many partnering organisations (including educational, clinical and professional organisations) who contribute to the growth of content on specific topics through Physiopedia projects.  This year, we are highlighting the efforts of Tony Verela.

Dr. Varela brings over 20 yrs of experience in musculoskeletal health including pain management to the School of Physical Therapy at the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education. The School of Physical Therapy Musculoskeletal developed a content development project in 2022 with Physiopedia. This is the second year of running the project.

The project forms part of the Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy 1, a 1st-year course that introduces physiotherapy students to musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Their project focuses on knowledge and information that supports musculoskeletal dysfunction and rehabilitation. So far, 23 Physiopedia pages have been reviewed or created by the students as part of this project.

A special thank you to Tony and his team for their impactful contributions to Physiopedia content.

Social Media Impact Award

Where would we be without social media? Physiopedia initiatives, projects, content and contributions are highlighted daily on several platforms including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.  This award is given to the person who has helped move the needle forward and carved out a vital rehabilitation presence on social media. This award is given to Ahmed Diab, whose thoughtful posts and tweets have helped share the Physiopedia and Plus message.  Ahmed is a Physiotherapist in Egypt and an active content contributor on Physiopedia.  Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge with the rehabilitation community.

With an innate curiosity and unwavering commitment to completing numerous online rehabilitation courses, there is no doubt that Khin will become an exemplary clinician. Congratulations on a job well done, and continue embracing lifelong learning with enthusiasm.

Physiospot serves as an exceptional platform for addressing interesting and innovative ideas pertaining to rehabilitation medicine. It also serves as a virtual stage to showcase the remarkable initiatives and contributions of Physiopedia. For the second consecutive year, the esteemed Physiospot Superstar award is bestowed upon Scott Buxton, for his impactful post about Physiotherapy Job Interview Tips (How to Ace Your Interview), which has reached over 6000 reads!

Scott’s involvement with Physiopedia dates back to its early days, where he played a pivotal role in its development and subsequent success. Throughout his decade-long tenure, Scott has assumed various responsibilities, but he truly found his calling as the Physiospot Editor within the communications team. His relentless dedication to creating captivating and informative content will continue to resonate within Physiopedia for many years to come.

Currently, Scott has transitioned into a managerial position within the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Scott for his invaluable contributions, and he will forever remain an esteemed member of the Physiopedia team.

Outstanding Leadership

Among the numerous deserving candidates for this recognition, one individual stands out due to the overwhelming support received for their nomination. Vidya Acharya, who plays a vital role in organising and managing the Physiopedia content and volunteer team, has truly made a significant impact. Since joining the team in April 2018, Vidya has consistently demonstrated her strength as a mentor, guiding her colleagues and knowledge users alike.

Vidya’s unwavering focus and visionary mindset have played a supportive role in positioning Physiopedia among the top 50 medical websites worldwide. Additionally, she contributes to the success of the Physiopedia Power Hour, where she fosters stimulating discussions and provides guidance to fellow teammates in their contributions to Physiopedia. It is also worth mentioning that Vidya represented Physiopedia this year at the World Congress in Dubai, volunteering at the Physiopedia stand.

Vidya, your natural leadership qualities are truly inspiring, motivating the team to strive for their utmost potential.

This award deserves particular consideration, as it highlights the creativity and innovation occurring within the rehabilitation professions. It is with dynamic projects that our profession can grow and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of patients and the health care system as a whole. This year’s honour is given to Daphne Xuan.

Daphne is a media editor with the Plus team, responsible for editing and uploading videos for Plus online courses.  Daphne is particularly deserving of this award for her outstanding creative contributions to the new Anatomy Programme on Plus.
